National Geographic: Billie Eilish on inventing a greener kind of concert
Billie Eilish’s HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR is being recognized as a turning point for what sustainable touring can look like at a global scale. In a new National Geographic feature, Eilish reflects on how early experiences on the road exposed the environmental impact of live music, and how that realization shaped a tour designed to do things differently.
Working in partnership with REVERB and a network of collaborators, the tour integrated sustainability into every aspect of the live experience, from fan travel and food offerings to waste reduction and venue engagement. The results speak to what’s possible when artists lead with intention, including tens of thousands of single-use bottles avoided and expanded environmental initiatives at venues around the world.
The piece highlights how Eilish and her team are pushing beyond one-off changes to influence broader industry practices, offering a model that other artists can build from as momentum for more responsible touring continues to grow.
