Intern Blog: Camille :)
My name is Camille Vega, and I had the incredible opportunity to intern with REVERB, a music sustainability nonprofit, during the spring of 2023. When I first heard about REVERB, I knew I wanted to be a part of their mission. As someone deeply passionate about live music and sustainability, this internship seemed like the perfect fit. Over the course of my time with REVERB, I have gained invaluable insights into the music industry and discovered the immense impact the organization has behind the scenes.
Meeting REVERB
During a previous internship in Paris, I had the privilege of volunteering for REVERB at Lorde’s 2023 tour. This encounter opened my eyes to the organization’s work and left a lasting impression on me. The convergence of my two passions, live music and sustainability, drew me to REVERB, and I knew I wanted to contribute to their cause.
My internship with REVERB provided me with a unique opportunity to delve into the workings of the music industry. In May, I volunteered at the Cali Roots festival, where I had the chance to meet the incredible REVERB crew. As someone who had attended several festivals before, I was astounded by the immense effort put into organizing such events. Witnessing the impact of REVERB’s sustainability initiatives, such as the refill station that significantly reduced the number of disposable water bottles, was truly inspiring. The organization’s dedication to making a difference in the music industry is both impressive and uplifting.
The REVERB Community
One of the most profound aspects of my internship experience was witnessing how music brings together people from all walks of life. It is deeply moving to see individuals converge in a space to enjoy music while respecting the environment. REVERB’s work in creating a sustainable and inclusive environment within the music community showcases the power of music to unite diverse individuals and foster positive change. It has been a privilege to be a part of this movement.
Effective communication emerged as a crucial skill throughout my virtual internship with REVERB. Though most of my interactions with the team were virtual, they reinforced the significance of clear and concise communication. Further, it helped me to develop the skill of communicating topics of the climate crisis in an accessible way to various groups of people. Understanding the importance of reaching out for clarification and conveying ideas effectively has been invaluable. This internship has provided me with essential skills that will undoubtedly benefit me in any future job, whether in person or virtual.
My time as an intern at REVERB has been nothing short of transformative. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their mission and to have learned so much about the music industry and sustainability. Witnessing the impact of REVERB’s initiatives and experiencing the unifying power of music has left an indelible mark on me. This internship has equipped me with invaluable skills and experiences that will shape my future endeavors. I will forever cherish the memories and knowledge gained at REVERB, and I am excited to continue supporting the intersection of music and sustainability in my personal and professional life.
