OVERVIEW
Healing Appalachia and REVERB teamed up to reduce the climate footprint of the 2024 festival as part of Music Decarbonization Project!
Working with our partners at Overdrive Energy Solutions, the festival stage, tour buses, vendors, and food & beverage vendors were entirely powered using battery systems.
THIS RESULTED IN A 99% REDUCTION IN GREENHOUSE GAS POLLUTION vs. using typical equivalent diesel generators!

GREENHOUSE GAS REDUCTIONS
- 99% REDUCTION IN GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS
- 94% REDUCTION IN DIESEL FUEL USE
Est. 2,930 gallons of diesel saved vs. using equivalent fossil fuel generators - 242 kWh FROM SOLAR
9% of total energy - 30.1 METRIC TONNES OF CO2e AVOIDED
Equivalent to not burning 33,000 pounds of coal

DOLLARS AND SENSE
The increased cost of the batteries was entirely offset by the savings in fuel costs at Healing Appalachia!
Using a real-time data system, we were able to show this system had roughly 5x the capacity needed to run the show, which means there are opportunities for further cost reductions in the future.
